Training Description: Join President of Recovery Vermont, Peter Espenshade for this 3-hour training that will provide those responsible for leading recovery meetings with the key skills needed to facilitate and host effective meetings. Learn practical skills on how to facilitate recovery groups, start your own, and run a successful group. We will talk about boundaries, setting the time and space expectations, as well as tools on how to keep the group on track. 

Learning Objectives: 

At the conclusion of the training, participants will be able to:
• Plan and conduct effective meetings
• Describe the role of a facilitator
• Demonstrate key facilitation skills including focusing the discussion, summarizing and allowing for equal participation
• Structure discussions to achieve a specific end
• Describe methods for preventing and responding to challenging situations

About the Trainer

Peter Espenshade (he, him, his)  is super proud of his long-term recovery and has been the President of Recovery Vermont and VAMHAR since 2013.  Prior to his work here, Peter worked in philanthropy as a VP at the Vermont Community Foundation and as the Executive Director of the Lake Champlain Land Trust.  He is an active supporter of the arts and currently serves on the board of the Vermont Shakespeare Festival.
